A Beaumont man is suing the city to stop the demolition of two of his houses.

Cleon Fowler filed the lawsuit Oct. 13 in Jefferson County District Court against the city of Beaumont.

According to the complaint, Beaumont declared the plaintiff's properties at 1192 Elgie St., to be dilapidated structures and has scheduled them for demolition.

Fowler says he intends to save the houses and remodel them to comply with city codes. Should they be demolished, the plaintiff alleges, the value of his property will be reduced and he will lose almost all of the investments he has made in the structures.

Fowler seeks a temporary restraining order, a temporary and then a permanent injunction against the city for any demolition, plus court costs. He is representing himself in the case.

Jefferson County District Court case number A-197706.
