HOUSTON — Two African-Americans are suing a credit union, alleging wrongful termination.
Emma Donald of Brazoria County and Christopher Lee of Harris County filed a lawsuit Jan. 15 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Plus4 Credit Union, alleging violation of the Civil Rights Act.
According to the complaint, Donald was hired in 2012 as the human resources manager, and during her time at Plus4 she was treated in a discriminatory way. She alleges as an African-American woman she was singled out and even ordered by the defendant to refrain from hiring black or Hispanic employees.
The suit says when Lee, a young African-American male, was hired a supervisor ordered Donald to fire Lee, alleging it was due to the plaintiff's dreadlocks. Donald alleges she was later retaliated against and terminated after refusing to fire Lee. The plaintiffs are suing for their wrongful terminations, in connection with the Civil Rights Act.
Donald and Lee seek damages of back and front pay, mental and emotional distress, costs of suit and legal fees. They are represented by attorneys Lionel Martin and Melissa Garcia-Martin of Garcia Martin & Martin PC in Sugar Land.
