HOUSTON — Two former employees are suing a number of businesses and individuals, alleging willful failure to pay overtime wages.

Ali Abbas and Jessica Curtis, individually and for all others similarly situated, filed a lawsuit Jan. 29 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Nilkanth Narayan LLC, Ghanshayam Enterprise LLC, Shreeji Marajh Enterprise LLC, Hiren Jashvantbhai Patel and Smita Hiren Patel, alleging violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, Enterprise employed Abbas and Curtis at the Bammel Food Mart in Houston as store clerks. The suit says Abbas made a fixed weekly wage of $750 while Curtis made a fixed weekly wage of $650, and neither received any overtime wages. Abbas and Curtis complained about the unpaid overtime wages and were terminated in retaliation, the lawsuit states.

The suit states Abbas was required to work 84 hours a week during each work week except in November and December 2014, when the hours per work week were 65 and 70, respectively. Curtis was required to work 63 hours a week during each workweek except in February, March and April 2014, when she had to work 84 hours a week, the suit states.

Abbas and Curtis seek a jury trial, plus liquidated damages in an amount equal to the unpaid overtime wages, along with other orders for further relief. They are represented by attorney Salar Ali Ahmed of Houston.
