Shopper blames HEB Grocery for slip, injuries

BEAUMONT – A Port Arthur woman is suing a Jefferson County grocery store, alleging her fall was caused by soap left on a store floor.

Ruby Scott filed a lawsuit Feb. 16 in Jefferson County District Court against HEB Grocery Company LP alleging, breach of duty of ordinary care, negligence and carelessness.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 16, 2014, while shopping at the HEB in Port Arthur, and walking down an aisle, she slipped on soap that was on the floor, resulting in injuries to Scott's right shoulder, right arm, hip, back and body in general.

Scott seeks monetary relief between $100,000 and $500,000, as well as costs of court, plus a jury trial. She is represented by attorney Tom Oxford of Waldman Smallwood PC in Beaumont.
