JC auto collision suit settles

Before a jury could be selected, a Jefferson County man who claims he was injured in a collision settled.

Dwayne E. Colone filed a lawsuit June 18, 2014 in the Jefferson County District Court against Derrick J. Fontenot and Alced Chaison, citing negligence.

The case was set to go to trial on May 16 but settled beforehand, according to a courthouse official.

According to the complaint, Colone was slowing to turn into his driveway Aug. 29, 2013 when his vehicle was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by Fontenot and owned by Chaison.

The defendants were accused of negligence and negligence per se.

Colone was seeking damages, interest, and costs of court.

He was being represented in the case by attorney Ryan C. Scott of The Scott Law Firm PLLC in Beaumont.

Judge Kent Walston, 58th District Court, presided over the case.
