Welder accuses Spartan Offshore Drilling of negligence over back injury

Oilrig 02

GALVESTON – A welder alleges he injured his back after being asked to move an air vent.

Arthur Peel filed a complaint on June 8 in Galveston County District Court against Spartan Offshore Drilling LLC alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 18, 2015, he experienced severe back pain, which required ongoing treatment and surgery, as a result of manually moving an air vent weighing between 1,000 to 2,000 pounds while he was performing his duties for the defendant. The plaintiff holds Spartan Offshore Drilling LLC responsible because the defendant's employee allegedly instructed the plaintiff to move the heavy air vent without providing proper lifting assistance.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant of more than $1 million, interest, exemplary damages, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Kurt B. Arnold, J. Kyle Findley and Kala F. Sellers of Arnold & Itkin LLP in Houston.
