Utility company blames motorist for crash into pole

Car accident 35

GALVESTON — A utility company is suing a Hitchcock woman, alleging she negligently crashed her vehicle into one of the plaintiff's utility poles.

Centerpoint Energy Houston Electric LLC filed a lawsuit June 20 in Galveston County District Court against Nisha Lanell Mullins, alleging she violated the VTCA Transportation Code.

According to the complaint, on Nov. 14, 2015, Mullins ran off the road while driving eastbound on the 5200 block of FM 517 and hit one of the plaintiff's utility pole. The suit says this resulted in damages with an estimated cost for material, crew charge, transportation and repair of $12,189.29.

The plaintiff alleges Mullins failed to follow proper road procedures and standards while operating a vehicle, failed to stay in a single lane, failed to stop at proper place and failed to keep proper lookout.

Centerpoint Energy Houston Electric seeks a trial by jury, judgment within the court's jurisdictional limits, pre- and post-judgment interest, legal costs and other relief to which it may be entitled. It is represented by attorney Jeffrey Wells Oppel of Oppel & Goldberg PLLC in Houston.
