HOUSTON — A Harris County woman is suing her former employer, with offices in Katy, alleging racial discrimination.

Jennifer Scott filed a lawsuit June 30 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Snyder’s-Lance Inc., alleging failure to promote, disparate treatment and constructively terminating Scott because of her race.

According to the complaint, despite Scott's strong qualifications and experience, she was not considered for a promotion to regional sales manager in 2012 and was not even interviewed. The suit says she also experienced severely hostile treatment, was subjected to discrimination and intimidation and had no choice but to resign her position.

As a result, the lawsuit states, she has suffered mental anguish, humiliation, lost wages, inconvenience, lost opportunity, loss of enjoyment of life and harm to her professional reputation. The plaintiff alleges the defendant ignored and failed to address highly problematic issues of race and allowed and/or caused workplace conditions to become so hostile and intimidating for her.

Scott seeks a trial by jury, actual and consequential damages, plus interest, punitive/exemplary damages, attorney fees, legal costs and all other relief that justice requires. She is represented by attorney Marc Anson Bozeman of The Bozeman Law Firm in Houston.
