Employee accuses municipality of sexual harassment

Wrongful term 12

MARSHALL — A Wills Point woman is suing the city of Van, alleging she was sexually harassed.

Cathy McCoy filed a complaint July 14 in the Marshall Division of the Eastern District of Texas against the city of Van, alleging sexual harassment and wrongful termination.

According to the complaint, McCoy was subjected to hostile work environment, sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation and unlawful termination during her employment May 2014 to July 2015. The suit says these actions caused her to suffer emotional pain, inconvenience, mental anguish, loss wages and loss of enjoyment of life.

The plaintiff alleges Van created an abusive work environment, refused to assign her to a new training officer, denied her the opportunity to complete her training and fired her on the pretext that she was not able to complete field training.

McCoy seeks a trial by jury, damages within the jurisdictional limits of the court and such other relief to which she is justly entitled. She is represented by attorneys Steven B. Thorpe and Carla S. Hatcher of Thorpe, Hatcher and Washington PLLC in Dallas.
