HOUSTON – Akerman LLP, a top 100 U.S. law firm with offices across the United States, recently added 30 lawyers from the major international firm Beirne Maynard and Parsons. Akerman LLP is well known for work in the financial services sector.

Those joining Akerman LLP are six associates, three of counsel and 21 partners who will bring experience from the Texas House of Representatives, the House Committee on Civil Practices, the Texas Secretary of State Office, the House Committee on Regulated Industries, the Texas Senate and also have experience with major oil and gas industry corporations.

“Akerman will more than double its Texas presence with the addition of these lawyers and establish new locations in Houston, San Antonio, Austin and New Orleans, Louisiana,” states a firm press release. “Akerman will have 45 litigators and transactional lawyers across four offices in the state, and 675 lawyers and integrated business professionals across 24 U.S. offices.”

The firm is growing quickly, with 22 lawyers in its Dallas office, and is adding 16 of the newly acquired lawyers to its Houston location, an important location for international trade and investments between the United States and Latin America. Its other offices have also grown quickly, including the addition of 39 lawyers in its Chicago location since 2014 and a total of 90 lawyers in its New York City office. Akerman LLP is also the biggest firm in Miami.

“We're excited about attracting such a large number of stellar litigators and trial lawyers, and with them expanding our presence across Texas into Houston, San Antonio and Austin, and into New Orleans as well," states a press release.

The new lawyers from Beirne Maynard and Parsons will be important in cases involving oil and gas, energy, petrochemical, complex commercial litigation, class action defense, appellate law and worldwide arbitration, the firm said.

Akerman’s additions will also be important in assisting with its clients with concerns in health care, fraud, intellectual property, labor laws, real estate, pharmaceutics and medical devices, construction, automotive matters and aviation.

Akerman LLP and Beirne Maynard and Parsons have crossed paths many times, as they dabble in similar cases and are both part of the Network of Trial Law Firms.

“A compatible culture, with shared values and vision, has always been key for us in evaluating talent acquisitions," the firm release states. “We share a commitment to deliver an exceptional experience to our clients, our people, and our communities."

Those joining from Beirne Maynard and Parsons include one of the founders, Martin Beirne, Scott Marrs, chairman, Brit Brown, managing partner, and Terry Adams, appellate practice chair.

“Akerman is a dynamic, forward-thinking law firm that is truly client driven in its strategy, and it is exceptionally well managed,” the release states. “Our move will enable us to share a new level of industry specialists and expertise with our clients in even more places, and will do so with a continued focus on quality, efficiency and innovation.”
