HOUSTON — An Oregon man is suing two Houston police officers, alleging unlawful arrest and detention.

Alejandro Alvarez of Beaverton, Oregon, filed a lawsuit July 18 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Arvis Fields and Ernest Mireles, alleging the police officers deprived him of his constitutional rights.

According to the complaint, between Aug. 15-19, 2015, Alvarez was arrested at George Bush International Airport in Houston and detained by the Houston Police Department with no explanation as to why he was kept in custody. The suit says the plaintiff was arrested under the false belief there was a warrant for his arrest when there was no warrant.

As a direct and proximate result of defendants’ conduct, the lawsuit states, Alvarez has suffered injuries, financial damages and emotional distress. The plaintiff alleges Arvis Fields and Mireles arrested, detained, and incarcerated him based on their unreasonably false beliefs that there was a warrant for his arrest.

Alvarez seeks trial by jury, all damages, attorney fees, costs of suit and all other relief to which he is entitled. He is represented by attorneys William Pieratt Demond and Meagan Hassan of Demond & Hassan PLLC in Houston.
