Per recent court documents, Smart Lock is the owner of U.S. Patent No. 7,012,503. The ‘503 patent, entitled “Electronic Key Device a System and a Method of Managing Electronic Key Information,” was issued on Mar. 14, 2006.
“The 503 patent generally covers systems and methods for controlling access to a location using an electronic key device which has the ability to store and transmit user-editable access codes to a corresponding lock control unit, which in turn operates a lock mechanism,” court papers state.
Smart Lock seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.
