HOUSTON – A Houston private investigating business alleges an individual competed against it after it acquired another company.

KGI Holdings LLC filed a complaint on Sept. 11 in the Galveston County District Court against Kathleen Griffin, Kathy Griffin Inc. and K Griff Investigations Inc., doing business as K Griff Investigations & Civil Processing, alleging common law fraud and fraudulent inducement, breach of contract and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in May 1, it bought the assets of the defendants and simultaneously engaged defendant Griffin as consultant for $9,250 a month to help transition of the operations. The plaintiff holds Kathleen Griffin, Kathy Griffin Inc. and K Griff Investigations Inc. responsible because Griffin allegedly violated the non-compete agreement by competing against plaintiff and taking private investigation clients, billed and collected for services for the same clients while being paid by plaintiff.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks temporary injunction enjoining Griffin from entering the premises, accessing KGI computers, contacting KGI vendors and destroying KGI business records; award for compensatory damages, attorney's fees and such other relief. It is represented by Pete T. Patterson of Patterson PC in Houston.
