HOUSTON — A family is suing Houston health care providers, alleging their negligence led to the death of a relative.

Kelly Holt, Jedidiah Holt, Georgia Dean, as next friend of J.R.H., a minor, and James Richard Holt, executor of the estate of Jessie Ross Holt, deceased, filed a lawsuit Sept. 28 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against CHI St. Luke’s Patients Medical Center, Dr. Kevin A. Lisman and Houston Cardiovascular Associates, alleging violation of the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 11, Jessie Holt was brought to CHI St. Luke’s Patients Medical Center, due to a life-threatening condition. Because of the defendants' failure to stabilize and treat Holt's condition after he collapsed while jogging, the suit says, Holt died April 8.

The lawsuit states an autopsy established that an untreated severe aortic stenosis caused Holt's untimely death at the age of 44. The suit says the plaintiffs suffered loss of care, support and services and experienced funeral and burial expenses.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants did not provide Holt with an echocardiogram and/or consultation with a cardiologist, discharged him without admitting him to the hospital and failed to provide treatment to stabilize his emergency medical condition.

The plaintiffs seek trial by jury, judgment for all damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs of court and all other relief. They are represented by attorney Rockne W. Onstad of The Onstad Law Firm in Austin.
