HOUSTON — A Kingwood man is suing his former employer, alleging disability discrimination and wrongful termination.
Andrew Mattheis filed a lawsuit Oct. 12 in Harris County District Court against Atlas Copco Compressors LLC, alleging violation of the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act.
According to the complaint, Mattheis, who worked as a purchasing manager for Atlas Copco, underwent cancer surgery in January 2014, and knee replacement in October 2014.
As a result, he was out of work for more than 16 weeks. In a Jan. 4, 2016, meeting, the suit says, Atlas Copco's general manager indicated he wanted to end Mattheis' employment.
After knowing that his position would be eliminated, the lawsuit states, Mattheis applied for six or seven other positions but was not selected. The suit says this caused him to suffer economic and mental damages, humiliation and embarrassment.
The plaintiff alleges Atlas Copco subjected him to adverse employment actions, treated him less favorably, terminated his employment and refused to select him for the positions for which he was qualified.
Mattheis seeks trial by jury, monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, plus interest, attorney fees, costs of court and all such other relief. He is represented by attorney Gregg M. Rosenberg of Rosenberg & Sprovach in Houston.
