Jefferson County picks Trump over Hillary, barely

Election

BEAUMONT – Primarily a Democratic stronghold, Jefferson County voters favored Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton in the General Election by the slightest of margins.

With all precincts reporting in, 42,828 area residents casted their votes for Trump for 48.92 percent. Clinton received 42,404 votes for 48.44 percent.

Jefferson County voters also favored Republican Congressman Randy Weber in the race for District 14, giving the U.S. representative 51.12 percent of the total vote.

However, not all Republicans faired that well though in the Golden Triangle.

Jefferson County voters favored Democrat Grady Yarbrough (42,014 votes) over Republican Wayne Christian (40,081) in the race for railroad Commissioner.

Christian won with 53.17 percent of the total vote while Yarbrough only received 38.30 percent.

While the three incumbent Republican Texas Supreme Court justices up for re-election crushed their Democratic challengers overall, Jefferson County residents slightly favored their Democratic challengers.

Area voters give Justice Debra Lehrmann 48.05 percent. Democratic challenger Mike Westergren received 48.81 percent.

Justice Paul Green garnered 47.67 percent while Dori Contreras Garza netted 49.04 percent in the county.

Lastly, Justice Eva Guzman received 48.21 percent, a fraction of a point shy of Savannah Robinson’s 49.02 percent.

In the race for County Court-At-Law No. 2, Democrat Terrence Holmes barley edged out Republican Luke Nichols, capturing nearly 51 percent of the total vote.
