Former employee accuses Houston of wrongful discharge

Wrongful term 10

HOUSTON — A former employee is suing the city of Houston, alleging sexual harassment and wrongful discharge.

Kendall Baker filed a lawsuit Oct. 19 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against the city of Houston alleging violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, Baker, who was an exemplary employee for the city starting in 1984, was subjected to discrimination in connection with the compensation, terms, conditions and privileges of his employment. The suit says Baker's employment was terminated Sept. 17, 2013, in retaliation for reporting claims of sexual harassment.

The plaintiff alleges the city of Houston failed to investigate his complaints of sexual harassment and allowed the behavior to continue and retaliated against Baker for exercising his rights to work in a harassment-free workplace.

Baker seeks trial by jury, damages within the jurisdictional limits of the court, together with interest, costs of court and all other relief. He is represented by attorney Christopher Carmona of Houston.
