Multi-Merchants, driver accused of negligence in traffic death of Harris County man

Semi crash 05

MARSHALL – Members of a family have filed a suit against a trucking company and a Shreveport man after the death of a Harris County resident in a collision.

Amado Vega, Lydia Colunga, Rosario Cabrera, Armando J. Vega, Isela V. Marquez, Amado A. Vega and Melissa Vega, individually and as sole heirs of Amado R. Vega, filed a complaint on Nov. 1 in the Marshall Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Multi-Merchants Inc. and Melvin Edwards alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Oct. 19, on Interstate Highway 20 east of U.S. Highway 259 North near Kilgore, Edwards struck and killed Amado R. Vega with a tractor-trailer leased to and operated by defendant Multi-Merchants. As a direct and proximate result, the plaintiffs allege that they suffered mental anguish, lost the love, affection and pecuniary support of their father and for the cost expended for their father's funeral and interment. The plaintiffs hold Multi-Merchants Inc. and Edwards responsible because the Edwards allegedly failed to maintain control of his vehicle, failed to keep proper lookout and drove the vehicle inattentively.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek monetary relief of more than $75,000, with pre- and post-judgment interest, all costs of court and such other relief to which they may be entitled. They are represented by James A. Holmes of The Law Offices of James A. Holmes PC in Henderson.
