Patient blames medical care providers for vocal cord injuries

HOUSTON — A patient is suing Memorial City medical care providers, alleging their negligence caused injuries to her vocal cords. 

Linda Braton filed a lawsuit Dec. 28 in Harris County District Court against Dr. Matthew Todd Taylor, Metrowest Anesthesia Care PLLC, registered nurse Anitra Roberson and Hermann Memorial Village Surgery Center Memorial City, alleging failure to properly examine the plaintiff's condition prior to intubation.

According to the complaint, as a result of the traumatic intubation Dec. 29, 2014, Braton has been diagnosed with permanent injury to her vocal cords. The suit says she has suffered physical and mental pain, disfigurement, lost earnings and medical expenses. 

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to properly intubate her, and failed to perform a proper pre-anesthesia examination and assessment.

Braton seeks trial by jury, monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, compensatory and punitive damages, pre- and post-judgment interest. cost of court and all other proper relief. She is represented by attorney Monica C. Vaughan of Houssiere, Durant & Houssiere LLP in Houston.
