Employee blames Wal-Mart for injuries

Slip02

GALVESTON — An employee is suing Wal-Mart, alleging the store's negligence caused her to suffer injuries.

Kathy Haritos of Harris County filed a complaint on March 17, in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Wal-Mart Stores Texas LLC alleging that the retail store operator failed to provide a safe workplace.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 16, 2016, Haritos suffered severe, debilitating injuries to her right leg and ankle when she slipped on a pool of water while working at the Wal-Mart store No. 2439 in Mont Belvieu. As a result, she says she has incurred substantial medical expenses and sustained lost wages and physical and mental pain.

The plaintiff alleges Wal-Mart Stores Texas refused to call an ambulance when she was injured. Instead, the suit says, her son was called upon to take her to a hospital for medical treatment. The lawsuit states Wal-mart also failed to maintain worker's compensation insurance.

Haritos seeks trial by jury, judgment with interest, costs of court and all other relief. She is represented by attorney Clifford D. Peel II of Houston.
