GALVESTON – A murder-suicide earlier this year has resulted in a lawsuit, according to recent Galveston County District Court records.

The parents of Dulce Maria Mavil are suing the estate of Byron Everts for the subject event which occurred at the decedents’ residence sometime around Feb. 20.

In the suit filed Apr. 11 in the Galveston County 10th District Court, the plaintiffs assert that Everts fatally shot their daughter and then turned the gun on himself.

Authorities say that Everts’ son found the couple already deceased.

“Byron Everts’ conduct that caused decedent’s death was a producing cause of injury to the parents of Dulce Maria Mavil,” the original petition says.

Consequently, Mavil’s parents seek unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

They are represented by attorney Kenneth D. McConnico of Houston.
