Mother, daughter accuse ice shaving business of negligence

HOUSTON — A Harris County woman is suing a Pasadena ice shaving business, alleging negligence led to injuries to her daughter.

Guadalupe Murillo, individually and as next friend of a minor child, filed a complaint May 1 in Harris County District Court against Sandy's Shaved Ice and More LLC and Renee Ramirez, alleging they failed to provide a safe working environment.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 29, 2016, the minor plaintiff, who was employed by the defendant, was severely injured while shaving ice. The plaintiffs allege the defendants failed to provide safe and suitable appliances, failed to provide proper training and supervision and failed to subscribe to workers' compensation insurance coverage.

The plaintiffs seek trial by jury, monetary relief up to $100,000, general and special damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs of court and all other lawful and equitable relief. They are represented by attorneys David K. Mestemaker, Norman Straub and Van Gardner of Mestemaker & Straub in Houston.
