SAN ANTONIO – A Bexar County man is suing The Voss Law Firm, alleging he is owed nearly $100,000 for securing hundreds of hailstorm clients for the Houston-area law firm.

Seeking up to $200,000 in damages, Hassuan Jenkins filed the suit May 18, also naming firm founder Bill Voss as a defendant.

According to the lawsuit, Jenkins entered into a verbal contract with Voss and Gage Adjusting Group to secure hail and wind damage clients.

“Jenkins produced 369 clients for Voss and the verbal contract called for payment of $250 on each case committed to Voss, plus 10 percent of any settlement effected by Voss and Gage Adjusting Group,” the suit states.

“The amount of $92,500 is due and owing to Jenkins.”

Scott Hunziker, a managing partner at Voss Law, told the Record that the suit is “bogus” and was brought by a “greedy individual who we frankly do not even know.”

“The fact that a lawyer would be duped into representing this person in an obvious attempt to shake down our firm through such specious litigation shows just how uninformed or unqualified he is as well,” Hunziker said.

“We'll defeat this suit. We'll seek sanctions.”

Reports of Texas attorneys illegally employing adjusters and contractors to secure clients following major hailstorms have surfaced in recent years.

In his suit, Jenkins contends he unsuccessfully made a demand on Voss for payment, plus an additional $2,500 for attorney’s fees, on Oct. 3, 2016.

He is charging the defendants with breach of contract.

San Antonio attorney Dennis Richard represents him.

Gage Adjusting is located in McAllen, arguably the birthplace of mass hailstorm litigation.

Filed in Bexar County District Court, cause No. 2017C109218
