Tankerman blames employers for injuries

GALVESTON — A Louisiana man is suing maritime businesses, alleging negligence and unsafe work environment led to injuries for the plaintiff.

Kristopher Panages filed a complaint June 13 in Galveston County District Court against Martin Operating Partnership LP and SGS North America Inc., alleging they failed to provide a safe work place.

According to the complaint, on March 13 he was working as a seaman aboard the MV Herndon R. The suit says while Panages was hooking up a dock hose, a co-worker opened a dock valve, causing a liquid product to spray into the plaintiff's eyes, face and body.

Panages says he has endured physical pain and suffering and was forced to incur medical expenses. He alleges the defendants failed to provide the plaintiff with adequate, proper, and safety equipment to safely perform his job and failed to provide maintenance and cure.

Panages seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $1 million and all other relief. He is represented by attorneys R. Todd Elias and Jeff Seely of Gordon, Elias & Seely LLP in Houston.
