Continued: $1M slip and fall suit against Baptist Hospitals

Slip01

BEAUMONT – A slip and fall lawsuit against a Beaumont hospital that was previously set for trial in September has been continued.

Seeking up to $1 million in damages, Bobby Jones filed a complaint Sept. 14, 2015, in Jefferson County District Court against Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, alleging negligence.

Court records show that on Aug. 2 Jones filed a motion for continuance, arguing that more time was needed to review untimely discovery responses.

A hearing on the issue was held on Aug. 14. The parties agreed on the motion and it was granted, according to Judge Baylor Wortham, 136th District Court.

Case history

On Sept. 22, 2014, the complaint states, while visiting a relative on the premises of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Jones slipped and fell due to a liquid substance on the floor.

The complaint states the defendant was negligent in creating an unsafe condition to visitors, failing to properly maintain the flooring area in question, failing to warn of the unsafe condition, and failing to remove the liquid substance to avoid injuries.

As a result, Jones suffered bodily pain and suffering, mental anguish, lost wages physical impairment, loss of enjoyment of life and medical expenses.

Jones seeks monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, plus court costs.

Jones is represented by John Pat Parsons of Lindsay Lindsay & Parsons in Beaumont.
