HOUSTON – A Hidalgo County seaman alleges that his former employer has denied maintenance and cure benefits to him.

Abdon Valdez filed a complaint on Aug. 13 in the Harris County District Court against Weeks Marine Co. LLC alleging injury.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that roughly two years ago, he was injured while working for the defendant on its vessel while doing a heavy manual lift. He alleges he injured his back again later and was later terminated.

The plaintiff alleges he has not reached maximum medical improvement and that the defendant has denied payment or has delayed maintenance and cure payments to him.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $1 million, plus interest, costs and such other and further relief to which he may be justly entitled. He is represented by Anthony G. Buzbee and Christopher J. Leavitt of The Buzbee Law Firm in Houston.
