LOCKE LORD LLP: Locke Lord Dallas Partner and Former Texas 5th District Court of ‎Appeals Justice Elizabeth Lang Miers Elected Chair of American ‎Bar Association’s Judicial Division

Locke Lord issued the following announcement on Aug. 22.

Dallas Partner Elizabeth Lang Miers, a member of Locke Lord’s Appellate Practice Group, was sworn in as 2019-2020 Chair of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Judicial Division during the ABA’s Annual Meeting. The Judicial Division is comprised of judges from all jurisdictions and types of courts as well as lawyers who support and are dedicated to improving the American judicial system.

Lang Miers, who is also the Firm’s Director of Attorney Development, rejoined Locke Lord in April after serving for 15 years as a Justice on the Court of Appeals for the 5th District of Texas at Dallas, the busiest appeals court in Texas. She authored more than 1,800 opinions on civil and criminal appeals from trial courts in Dallas, Collin, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman and Rockwall counties. Prior to her appointment, she spent 27 years with Locke Lord predecessor firms.

Serving in leadership positions across numerous community and professional organizations, Lang Miers is Past Chair of the ABA’s Appellate Judges Conference, Past President of the Dallas Bar Association, Past Chair of the Judicial Section of the State Bar of Texas, Past President of the Mac Taylor Inn of Court, and she served as Chair of the five-member State of Texas Multi-District Litigation Panel. She is a Life Fellow of the American, Texas and Dallas Bar Foundations and member of the American Law Institute, the Center for American and International Law Board of Trustees, the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society Board of Trustees, and the International Women’s Forum. She received the Judge Samuel Pessarra Outstanding Jurist Award from the Texas Bar Foundation, the Judge Sam Williams Leadership Award from the State Bar of Texas and the Chair’s Award for Excellence from the Texas Center for the Judiciary.
