HOUSTON – A financial struggle between Dannenbaum Engineering and former Harris County Commissioner Jerry Eversole has spilled over into the courts.

Both Dannenbaum and Eversole have dealt with their fair share of controversy in the past.

In 2019, Dannenbaum agreed to a 3-year deferred prosecution agreement over alleged violations of the Federal Election Campaign Act, agreeing to pay $1.6 million fine for its involvement in a contribution scheme.

In 2012, Eversole was sentenced to three years probation for making a false statement to the FBI.

Seeking declaratory judgment, Dannenbaum filed suit against Eversole on Feb. 15 in Harris County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on May 1, 2012, Dannenbaum and Eversole entered into a consulting agreement for 12 months, under which the firm agreed to pay Eversole $2,500 per month plus 30 percent for projects he helped secure.

“Eversole now contends that he is entitled to 30% of the net profits from certain projects spanning nearly a decade, and the monthly retainer for March through July 2020,” the suit states.

Dannenbaum is asking the court to find that the agreement between the parties was terminated on May 1, 2013.

Houston attorney Alexander Chae of Foley & Lardner represents the firm.
