HOUSTON — A man working on a school gym expansion project claims he suffered debilitating injuries when a row of stacked lockers fell on him and pinned him to the ground.

Juan Gonzalez filed a complaint July 19 in Harris County District Court against Kauffman Co., alleging negligence.

Gonzalez was working on an expansion project at the KIPP Dream Prep's gymnasium on Tidwell Road in Houston on Oct. 4 2019, according to his suit. He alleges that there was "a sequence" of metal lockers in the middle of the work area and when workers, including at least one Kaufman employee, began to move the lockers, one locker fell and caused a domino effect.

Gonzalez claims he was struck "with great force" by the last row of lockers that fell, was pinned to the ground and suffered "serious" and "debilitating" injuries that required medical treatment. He alleges the defendant was negligent for failing to implement and enforce safety procedures for contractors and employees and for not having an adequate number of employees to safely move the lockers.

Gonzalez seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Jesus Garcia, Jr., Kevin Haynes and Matthew Reeves of Kherkher Garcia LLP in Houston.
