HOUSTON — A worker at a chemical plant who suffered burns and other injuries after an explosion is claiming negligence.

Gregory Green filed a complaint Oct, 4 in Harris County District Court against Westlake Chemical Corporation, Westlake Chemical Energy LLC and Westlake Chemical OPCO LP alleging negligence and premises liability.

According to his suit, Green was working at Westlake Chemical in Sulphur, Louisiana as a hydro blaster on Sept. 27, 2021. He claims that while working at the chemical plant, a "Petro 2 ethane cracker" exploded and engulfed in flames which caused him to shatter his leg and pelvis, rupture his ear drums and knocked him unconscious.

Green further claims he suffered second-degree burns to over 40% of his body, a broken leg and pelvis and injuries to his head, neck and back. He alleges the defendants were negligent for failing to properly supervise the work site or to have adequate training and a safe workplace.

Green also alleges the defendants did not inspect, maintain or repair the equipment and failed to detect and monitor the flammable gasses in the area where he was working. He claims the defendants violated OSHA regulations.

Green seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Muhammad Aziz and David Baluk of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner in Houston.
