Port Terminal Railroad worker alleges lack of safety, training caused his injuries

HOUSTON — A Port Terminal Railroad Association employee alleges he suffered severe injuries while pulling pins to switch cars. 

Joshua Meza filed a complaint July 5 in Harris County District Court against Port Terminal Railroad Association alleging negligence. 

According to Meza's complaint, Meza worked as a switchman for Port Terminal for 16 years. He claims that while he and a co-worker were pulling pins in switching cars in June of 2022, his knee and back popped causing him to suffer three herniations. 

Meza alleges Port Terminal was negligent for failing have a reasonably safe place to work or have safe tools and equipment for the performance of his work. He also alleges Port Terminal failed to properly train employees in the proper method of moving cars to prevent workers from being caught in them. Meza claims he suffered permanent and disabling injuries to his shoulders, knee, head and spine which required surgical and therapeutic treatment. 

Meza seeks monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by M. Paul Skrabanek of Pierce Skrabanek PLLC in Houston.
