Worker sues equipment maker for injuries

A man has sued an industrial equipment manufacturer for alleged negligence and product liability.

Billy Hunt filed a lawsuit Feb. 18 in the Marshall Division of the Eastern District of Texas against SPX Corporation of North Carolina, allegeing negligence.

According to the complaint, Hunt was injured Feb. 19, 2013, while working for Eastman Chemical Company in Longview as he was helping to install a motor adaptor plate to the top of a chemical tank via a crane when two parts of the plate separated, fell about 25 feet and struck Hunt in the left hip and thigh, right knee and right foot.

The suit states SPX was negligent in the assembly of the faulty plates, the parts were not safe to use and SPX failed to provide proper instructions for the installation.

Hunt alleges physical impairment and disfiguration, loss of earning capacity, pain, suffering and anguish.

Hunt seeks $75,000 in damages, attorney fees and costs. He is represented by the Law Office of Bradley T. Steele in Longview.
