Shopper blames Randall's for injuries

Randalls

A Galveston County woman has sued a supermarket chain, alleging liability in a 2014 accident.

Vanessa Carpenter filed a lawsuit March 13 in Galveston County District Court against Randall's Food Markets of Houston, alleging her injuries in a 2014 fall were due to negligence.

According to the complaint, on March 1, 2014, Carpenter slipped and fell on water while purchasing goods at the defendant’s store at 2931 Central City Blvd., Galveston. Randall's failed to exercise ordinary care in making the premises safe for consumers, correct the hazardous condition posed by the puddle, warn shoppers of the surface conditions, or train personnel to keep the area clean, the suit states.

Carpenter said she was subject to medical, hospital and pharmaceutical expenses, loss of past and future wages, pain and suffering, mental anguish, disability and impairment. The plaintiff also states any pre-existing conditions were worsened by the fall.

Carpenter seeks actual damages between $100,000 and $200,000 in compensation for medical expenses, attorney fees, expenses and costs.

She is represented by attorney Jorge Gomez of Gomez Law Firm in Houston.

Galveston County District Court case number: 15-CV-0259.
