County cites baseball academy in lease dispute

Rental agreement

A local municipality has sued a baseball academy and its owner, citing a contractual dispute.

Jefferson County filed a lawsuit March 24 in Jefferson County District Court against Sam Moore, doing business as Zone Baseball Academy of Orange, citing breach of contract in a lease agreement.

According to the complaint, the county leased hangar space to Sam Moore on the premises of Jack Brooks Regional Airport beginning Jan. 1, 2010 for a monthly cost of $1,881. The suit says Moore made payments until the end of November 2011, then failed to remit rent for the next 13 months.

The suit says Moore and his company owe $23,953, less a $500 credit remitted by the defendant March 1, 2013.

The plaintiff alleges breach of contract, contending Moore failed to make timely, complete and final payments to the county for his occupancy of the leased property.

Jefferson County seeks compensation for total amount in arrears; pre- and post-judgment interest; attorney fees; expenses and costs. The county is represented by Bob Wortham, Jefferson County criminal district attorney, and by Philip Babin, assistant criminal district attorney of Beaumont.
