An oil worker has sued two companies, alleging safety violations.

Larry Holt, of Harris County, filed a lawsuit April 23 in Galveston County District Court against Anadarko Petroleum Corporation and Offshore Service Vessels, doing business as Edison Chouest Offshore, alleging liability in a 2013 incident.

According to the complaint, on May 21, 2013, Holt was delivering drums to a marine vessel owned by Edison Chouest in his capacity as an Anadarko employee. Anadarko had contracted to use the vessel, the suit states, and while the plaintiff was seated in a truck cab, a large drum fell from the crane onto the truck bed and injured him.

The suit cites the defendants with negligence; in failing to protect Holt from hazard; in hiring an unfit employee responsible for the accident; and in not seeking to correct unsafe working conditions. Additionally, Holt alleges his employer negligently entrusted equipment.

Holt also cites gross negligence and failure to operate the crane safely; maintain a lookout; take evasive action to avoid the incident; maintain the crane in proper working condition; follow safety protocol; and provide adequate equipment, training and gear.

The plaintiff alleges physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, permanent impairment and disability.

Holt seeks: compensation for medical expenses; exemplary and punitive damages; attorney fees; expenses and costs. Holt is represented by attorney Muhammad Aziz of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Friend in Houston.
