Okla. woman blames hospital, doctor for post-op stroke

A woman who suffered a stroke after a surgical procedure has sued the hospital and a doctor who treated her.

Diane J. Backues filed a lawsuit April 20 in the Sherman Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Texoma Medical Center Inc. and Dr. Gary Marlow, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, on May 16, 2014, Backues became a patient at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, complaining of abdominal pain, and the next day, Marlow performed a central line placement.

Hours later, she had a stroke, the suit states, and after a CT scan, an air embolism was found where the central line was implanted.

Backues left TMC on May 27, 2014, the complaint states, spending the next 23 days at TMC's Reba McEntire Center for Rehabilitation.

Backues seeks $75,000, compensatory damages, court costs, attorney fees and interest. She is represented by attorneys Kevin E. Krahl and John A. Krahl of Fuller, Tubb, Bickford and Krahl in Oklahoma City.
