Nabors driver alleges workplace discrimination

A Harris County woman has sued her employer, alleging workplace discrimination.

Latasha Everett of Houston filed a lawsuit May 18 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Nabors Completion and Production Services, alleging infringements of the Civil Rights Act and the Americans with Disability Act, plus race and gender discrimination.

According to the complaint, Everett began working for Nabors in early November 2012 as a driver and alleges management treated female and African-American drivers more strictly than other employees. She states racial epithets were used casually and she felt generally unwelcome.

The suit says when Everett was injured in an accident while at work, suffering complications, requiring treatment, and being advised by her doctor to take medical leave, she was suddenly terminated by phone in November 2013. The complaint states her employer cited the reason was she violated workman’s compensation policy by seeing an “external” medical professional.

Everett alleges she was intentionally subjected to continuous discrimination and harassment and deprived of equal employment opportunities and that her employer failed to engage interactively with her regarding her medical condition, leading to loss of wages and benefits.

The plaintiff cites humiliation, anxiety and stress.

Everett seeks: general, special, incidental, compensatory, punitive and consequential damages; pre- and post-judgment interest; attorney fees; expenses and costs.
