Teresa Sartor is suing a Port Arthur physician, Dr. Jacquin Coombs, for complications following a hysterectomy.

Sartor's medical-malpractice lawsuit was filed with the Jefferson County District Court on Sept. 28.

According to the plaintiff's original petition, Sartor sought treatment from Dr. Coombs for chronic abdominal pain and problems.

"Defendant performed a laparoscopic hysterectomy on Oct. 27, 2006, during the process of which she injured Plaintiff," the suit said. "Defendant...failed to recognize her error and discharged Plaintiff from the hospital without discovering or correcting such error. Plaintiff subsequently began to suffer severe pain and complications, and was subsequently readmitted, and ultimately transferred to another physician who discovered that both her left ureter and right ureter were injured, and was treated for the complications arising there from."

In her suit, Sartor alleges that Dr. Coombs violated the duty of care owed to her to exercise that degree of care, skill, and diligence ordinarily possessed and used by other members of the medical profession in good standing under the same or similar circumstances.

The suit accuses Dr. Coombs of negligently failing to warn Sartor of her "incompetent treatment," and for "failing to properly perform the medical treatment necessary to the Plaintiffs welfare according to the standards set by the medical profession."

Sartor is suing for past and future medical treatment, mental anguish, physical pain, loss of earning capacity and impairment.

She is demanding a trial by jury and is represented by attorney Adam Terrell of the Weller, Green, Toups & Terrell law firm.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd Judicial District, has been assigned to the case.
