A local hospital has been sued, not for anything to do with medical care it provides but for an injury on its premises.
On Oct. 26, 2006, Amy Broussard slipped and fell while walking across the skywalk at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital.
According to her petition, which was filed on April 18 with the Jefferson County District Court, an overhead leak had caused a pool of water to collect on the skywalk floor. "The defendant failed to inspect and make this dangerous condition safe and failed to provide adequate warning."
Broussard fractured her arm and wrist when she fell.
She is claiming the hospital failed to exercise ordinary care.
She is suing for past and future medical expenses, physical pain, mental anguish, loss of earnings and earning capacity, plus disfigurement and all court costs.
Broussard is demanding a trial by jury and is represented by Dan Ducote of the Beaumont law firm Moore Landrey.
Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
Case No. A179-137.
