While a patient at Baptist Memorial Hermann Beaumont, Arnulfo Reyes says he developed pressure sores and ulcers on his body.
Reyes and his wife have filed a suit against the hospital on June 19 in Jefferson County District Court, alleging nurses at Baptist failed to adhere to standards of care set by the nursing profession.
According to the suit, Reyes was admitted to Baptist Hospital on June 20, 2005. The original petition does not identify the nature of Reyes' illness or need for treatment.
On July21, 2005, the petition says Reyes was admitted to the Baptist Wound Healing Center.
During the course of treatment, Reyes "suffered pressure sores/ulcers on his body," the suit says.
The suit alleges that Reyes' injuries were attributable to the nurses, hospital and wound center staffs' failure to institute appropriate nursing interventions, failure to collaborate with plaintiffs and members of the healthcare team, failure to accurately and completely report contacts with other health care team members concerning significant events regarding plaintiff's status.
As a result of the defendants' negligent acts, the plaintiff argues that he suffered needlessly with anxiety, pain and illness. He is seeking past and future medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, physical impairment and disfigurement.
In addition, Delores Reyes claims she suffered needless anxiety, mental anguish and loss of consortium.
The plaintiffs are also seeking exemplary damages be awarded.

The case has been assigned to the 60th District Court, Judge Gary Sanderson presiding.
