Isern sued for back rent

Before a well-known local doctor, Dr. Reuben Isern, declared bankruptcy, his landlord, another famous Southeast Texan, made a written demand for payment of past due rent.

Property owner Brentwood Investments, owned by plaintiff's attorney Brent Coon, filed suit with the Jefferson County District Court on Oct. 3.

Dr. Isern, principal obligor, has not been made a defendant in this suit because he has filed for bankruptcy protection in the Bankruptcy Court of the Eastern District of Texas.

According to the plaintiff's original petition, Dr. Isern (Association), as tenant, and plaintiff, as landlord, executed one certain lease agreement whereby the Association leased from plaintiff, certain premises consisting of approximately 3,090 square feet of office space located in the office complex known as "Tuscany Park" at 3350 Dowlen Road. The original term of the lease is from Nov. 12, 2004 through Nov. 30, 2007.

The suit goes on to say Dr. Isern fell behind on his rent, a breach of guaranty agreement, and soon declared bankruptcy.

Brentwood Investments is suing for $33,294.72 in back rent, pre and post judgment, plus attorney fees.

The company is represented by attorney Jason Hughes of the Germer, Gertz law firm.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th Judicial District, has been assigned to the case.
