BBB sponsors annual senior expo

"Elvis" Wade will perform at the BBB Senior Expo

The Better Business Bureau of Southeast Texas and its Consumer Education Foundation are once again presenting a fun-filled and educational day for senior citizens.

The Senior Celebration & Consumer Expo will be 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Beaumont Civic Center. Parking and admission are free.

"The event is a festive and informative opportunity for adults of all ages, but particularly those who consider themselves to be 'senior'," said Michael Clayton, president/CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Southeast Texas.

The Celebration and Expo will feature more than 100 educational and entertaining exhibit booths, including health screenings, investment consulting, home remodeling, medical assistance and numerous other services provided for older adults. Dozens of free door prizes will be given away. "Patches" and "Happy" the clowns will be entertaining throughout the day.

"Elvis" Wade will perform a one-hour concert "live and in person" on the big main stage at 1 p.m. On his last trip to Beaumont, Wade sold out the Julie Rogers Theatre and a second show had to be added. Elvis Presley himself saw the show in 1976 and gave Wade a standing ovation; one of only two such ovations ever reported seen by Presley staffers.

The annual event is sponsored in part by the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission's Ozone Action Days. At 11 a.m. they will spread their clean air message on the main stage with information from Area Ozone Action Days, Drive Clean Across Texas and TxDot.

Throughout the presentation, Bingo numbers will be called for a chance to win an electric mower. Outside, there will be an opportunity to drive an alternatively fueled vehicle at the Ride and Drive with Philpott Ford and GemCar.

Billy Halfin and Charlie Holder will share a program entitled "What's Hot in Outdoor Products" with Academy Sports and Outdoors at 10 a.m.
The Boot Scooters and The Happy Steppers will perform at 9 a.m. A fun-filled Style Show will be presented by Dillards - Parkdale Mall at noon featuring area celebrity models. ACES Car Club will have 10 classic and restored antique automobiles on display at the event.

"We are excited that Elvis Wade is returning to Southeast Texas for the special concert presentation at this year's Senior Celebration & Consumer Expo, along with all the other special programs and exhibits," said Clayton. "We remind everyone that the event is free and open to all the public."
