Claiming his prescribed blood pressure medication caused him to have a heart attack, a Texas inmate has filed a medical-malpractice lawsuit against the doctor who prescribed him the pills.
Charlie Scruggs submitted the suit pro se against Dr. Charles Wilson in the Jefferson County District Court on March 14.
In 2004, Scruggs was admitted into the infirmary for sick call, where he was examined by Dr. Wilson. Scruggs was found to have high blood pressure and was prescribed a drug referred to as Arrelmil, the suit said.
Scruggs claims the drug "took away the strength from (his) heart muscles," causing him to suffer a "serious heart attack."
According to his suit, Scruggs was examined at a local Beaumont hospital after his heart attack where he learned his medication, not his high blood pressure, caused the heart attack.
Scruggs does not say what kind of damages he is seeking.
Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th Judicial District, has been assigned to the case.
