  • Randel Schoenberg vs. Ganesh Inc.

    More than two years ago, Randel Schoenberg was mugged in a Beaumont Motel 6 parking lot at approximately 1:30 a.m. He claims the thieves were able to assault him because they were "hiding in the (motel's) inadequately lighted parking lot."

    Schoenberg is suing for punitive and exemplary damages, plus past and future pain, mental anguish, lost earnings, impairment, disfigurement and medical expenses.

  • James Castle vs. Five B's, Inc.

    PA - Todd Elias, J - Gary Sanderson

    Ready for bed, Seaman James Castle stepped on a milk crate and hoisted himself up to the top bunk. In the morning, his leg hurt. Castle claims his employer Five B's Inc. forced him to serve aboard an unseaworthy vessel and has filed a Jones Act suit.

    He is suing for past and future mental anguish, pain and medical expenses.

  • Holly Baldwin vs. Charles Davis and Phuong Nguyen

    PA � John Lane, J � Gary Sanderson

    Baldwin is alleging Davis and Nguyen negligently caused an automobile collision on June 6, 2007 by failing to control their vehicle. Baldwin claims the defendants struck her vehicle while stopped at the 5800 block of the Eastex Freeway.

    She is suing for past and future medical expenses, impairment, loss of earning capacity, mental anguish and disfigurement.

  • Albert Pitre Jr. vs. Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas

    The son of Albert Pitre, Sr. has filed a medical-malpractice suit against Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital, claiming the hospital hastened his 88-year-old father's death by allowing him to develop butt ulcers. Albert Pitre, Jr. filed the suit through attorney Clay Dugas.

    The plaintiff and his attorney also claim that Texas' med-mal damage caps are unconstitutional.

  • Yolonda Sumlin vs. Wooden Pallets, LTD

    On Nov. 2, 2007, Sumlin was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer operated by a Wooden Pallets employee. Sumlin alleges the defendant caused her permanent injury by negligently failing to keep a proper lookout and traveling beyond the speed limit.

    She is suing for past and future medical expenses, impairment, loss of earning capacity, mental anguish and disfigurement.

  • Gregory Diaz vs. Brandon E. Richards and Allstate Insurance Co.

    Diaz is alleging Richards caused an automobile collision on Sept. 4, 2007 in Jasper County but failed to stop and exchange information. The suit says police officers had to apprehend the defendant. The plaintiff alleges the defendant caused him injury by negligently failing to keep a proper lookout and control his rate of speed.

    Diaz is suing Allstate, his insurance company, because Allstate allegedly failed to compensate him. Diaz says Richards was an "underinsured" motorist. Diaz is suing for property damages, plus past and future medical expenses, impairment, pain, mental anguish and disfigurement.

  • Jesse L. Furlow vs. Southwester Bell Telephone Co. (AT&T)

    Furlow says he was wrongfully terminated for claiming disability following an automobile accident he was in while evacuating during Hurricane Rita. Furlow says AT&T required him to come back to work in December 2005, but he had not been cleared to do so. He was discharged in March 2005 for not returning to work.

    Furlow is suing for reinstatement and attorney's fees.

  • Brian Muldrow vs. city of Beaumont

    PA - Brian Muldrow, J - Bob Wortham

    A Jefferson County man has sought and received a temporary restraining order against the city of Beaumont on March 31 � stopping the city from demolishing a building at 2002 Park Street. In a suit filed pro se in the Jefferson County District Court, Brian Muldrow says he purchased the Park Street structure without realizing it had been slated for demolishment.

    Muldrow's requests for more time to repair and remodel the structure have been denied. He is seeking a permanent injunction.

  • Ashley Pickett vs. the heirs of Kevin Robbins

    On Nov. 15, 2007, somewhere in Jefferson County, Robbins negligently caused an automobile collision, which killed him. Pickett was a passenger in Robbins vehicle and is suing his estate for past and future medical expenses, impairment, loss of earning capacity, mental anguish and disfigurement.

  • David Pouncy vs. Steinhagen Oil Co.

    Clearly marked with yellow paint, David Pouncy slipped and fell on a concrete ramp while exiting a gas station owned by Steinhagen Oil Co. Pouncy says the incident left him partially disabled and is suing the gas station claiming Steinhagen Oil failed to treat the ramp with "non-skid materials." Pouncy is suing for past and future medical expenses, pain, lost wages, loss of consortium and mental anguish.

  • Christopher Kittling, Sr. vs. Countrywide Home Loans

    PA - Jason Byrd, J - Donald Floyd

    After Hurricane Rita flattened Southeast Texas, Countrywide granted several residents a reprieve from making monthly mortgage payments. Now more than two years later, Countrywide is seeking to collect on those back payments.

    Christopher Kittling Sr. filed suit against the ailing home lender, claiming Countrywide misrepresented the conditions of the payment suspension and is unfairly requesting a lump sum payment plus additional late fees.

    The home owner is suing for actual and consequential damages, plus mental anguish and attorney's fees.

  • Erik Tolpo vs. UTMB

    A University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston male employee claims he was demoted because of his gender and has filed a discrimination suit against UTMB.

    He is suing for past and future loss of earnings, medical expenses, emotional pain, loss of enjoyment of life, inconvenience and all court costs. Tolpo is also asking to be reinstated to his former position.
