Man alleges jet skis defective, sues cycle shop

Nearly two years ago, R.J. Wortham Jr. purchased a new jet ski from Golden Triangle Cycle Center. When his new toy sputtered out on him, Wortham brought it back for repairs, along with another allegedly defective jet ski.

Wortham claims his jet skis were damaged at the time of purchased and has filed suit against Golden Triangle Cycle. His suit was filed on April 18 in the Jefferson County District Court.

According to the plaintiff's petition, on July 20, 2006, Wortham purchased a Kawasaki Jet Ski from Golden Triangle Cycle, but the water vehicle "failed to operate properly and was returned to Defendant for repair along with an additional jet ski."

"Plaintiff would show that as a result of the acts … of Defendant, both jet skis were damaged," the suit said.

"Plaintiff alleges that one, more than one, or all of the foregoing acts or omissions constitute negligence; the Defendant thus should be held liable for said negligent acts that were a proximate cause of the damages sustained by the Plaintiff. Defendant's conduct as described above was a proximate cause of Plaintiff's actual damages in an amount in excess of the jurisdictional limits of this Honorable Court."

Wortham is represented by attorney Chris Portner of the Reaud, Morgan & Quinn law firm.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th Judicial District.
