Doguet's sues milling company over non-payment for rice products

A local rice producer has filed suit against a milling company over an unpaid account.

Doguet's Rice Milling of Beaumont filed suit against Gulf Rice Milling on April 17 in Jefferson County District Court. Doguet's claims Gulf Rice owes it more than $200,000.

According to Doguet's petition, on March 7, 2007, the companies signed a rice purchasing contract which provided that Doguet's would provide rice products to Gulf Rice Milling.

"The plaintiff fully performed its obligations under said contract or offered to fully perform its obligations under said contract. Defendant has refused to honor its obligations under the contract and has therefore breached the contract," the suit said.

Doguet's claims Gulf Rice owes it $237,960. The company is also suing for court costs and attorneys' fees.

Doguet's is represented by Chris Portner of the Reaud, Morgan & Quinn law firm.

Judge Milton Shuffiled, 136th Judicial District, has been assigned to the case.
