John Morgan

A Beaumont attorney has filed suit against another local lawyer, claiming the lawyer breached attorney-client privilege when he spread confidential information to others in a divorce proceeding.

John S. Morgan claims he hired George Michael Jamail as his lawyer in a divorce proceeding with Kathleen Winslow Morgan.

Morgan fired Jamail and hired Debra Wester to substitute as the attorney of record, but Jamail refused to sign the motion to substitute counsel, according to the complaint filed Oct. 24 in Jefferson County District Court.

"Further, Mr. Jamail appeared in Court and made statements in front of the Honorable Judge Randy Shelton at a hearing dated Oct. 17, 2008 after he was terminated and without authority to speak on behalf of Mr. Morgan," the suit states.

Morgan claims Jamail also violated attorney-client privilege when he spread confidential information with Wester, the court and others.

Morgan is seeking an immediate temporary restraining order, a temporary injunction and ultimately a permanent injunction to stop any breaches of disciplinary rules.

Morgan is representing himself.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson of the 60th District Court.
