State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. has filed suit against a Beaumont man, alleging he injured one of the company's insured clients in a collision.
Derrell Stewart damaged and injured Horace S. Boatner and other passengers in Boatner's vehicle when he collided with them, according to the complaint filed Dec. 2 in Jefferson County District Court.
Boatner was insured by State Farm, the suit states.
Boatner and the passengers incurred medical costs, suffered mental and physical pain and suffering and were unable to work, State Farm claims.
Their total damages amounted to $4,975.87, according to the complaint.
In addition, damages to the vehicle were $5,009.65, the suit states.
State Farm paid $9,985.32 to Boatner, it claims.
Stewart was negligent because he failed to maintain a proper lookout, the suit states.
In addition to the amount it paid, State Farm is seeking pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which it is entitled.
Patrick Clerkin of Clerkin and Sinclair in Allen will be representing State Farm.
The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson of the 60th District Court.
