Suit against Texaco, Chevron blames workplace asbestos exposure for man's death

Hyde

The wife and children of a deceased man are suing two giant corporations, claiming the man's exposure to asbestos in the workplace played a role in his death from mesothelioma.

Shirley A. Osborne, Michael W. Osborne Jr., Dwayne A. Osborne and Mark D. Osborne filed a lawsuit June 12 in Jefferson County District Court against Texaco and Chevron.

According to the complaint, Michael W. Osborne Sr. developed mesothelioma after his work at Texaco and other facilities in Jefferson County.

During his work, Michael W. Osborne Sr. was exposed to asbestos fibers and dust, which caused his disease, the complaint says.

On March 13, Michael W. Osborne Sr. died "a terrible and painful death," the plaintiffs claim.

Although Texaco and Chevron knew about the harms of asbestos for decades, they failed to warn Michael W. Osborne of the product's danger and failed to ensure that their employees were not exposed to the carcinogen, the lawsuit states.

The Osbornes are seeking punitive and exemplary damages, plus interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief to which they may be entitled.

J. Keith Hyde and D'Juana Parks of Provost and Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont will be representing them.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: E184-287.
