A Jefferson County woman is suing a local grocery store chain, alleging she fell due to a dangerous condition on the companies' premises.
Kim Renee Relford filed a lawsuit June 26 in Jefferson County District Court against Retail Investors of Texas, doing business as Market Basket; TSTL Investments, doing business as Market Basket No. 2; and Market Basket No. 43.
Relford says she was shopping at the Market Basket located at 5690 FM 105 in Beaumont on July 3, 2007, at about noon when she fell due to "unsafe and dangerous conditions."
Although Relford does not specify what the unsafe and dangerous conditions were, she does blame the companies for failing to warn her about the dangerous conditions, for maintaining an area that was not safe, for failing to provide adequate warnings about the dangerous condition and for maintaining distractions that diverted Relford's attention away from dangerous condition.
According to the complaint, Relford incurred medical costs, sustained permanent bodily injuries, lost earnings and lost her future earning capacity because of the fall.
She is seeking exemplary damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which she may be entitled.
Stephen N. Williams of The Williams Firm in Beaumont will be representing her.
The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
